Welcome to the Iowa Great Lakes area -- on land that was once the summer camp ground of Woodland Indians. The Iowa Great Lakes region is noted for a traditional four-season climate, breathtaking beauty and abundance of activities and events. The Prairie Cottage provides private lodging for small groups and families at a reasonable rate per week. "Great for family reunions!"   Groups appreciate the self-service kitchen supplied with ingredients for a Continental Breakfast and fresh organic garden vegetables, when available.

The Prairie Cottage feels like home away from home in a relaxed and quiet rural community only ten minutes from the shores of Lake Okoboji, and the cities of Arnold's Park, Milford and Spencer.

The main attractions of the area are the glacier-carved lakes -- a chain of lakes extends from the Minnesota border southwest several miles and covers about fifteen thousand acres. The Iowa Great Lakes include Iowa’s largest natural lake, Spirit Lake and five interconnected lakes: West Okoboji, East Okoboji, Upper Gar, Lower Gar and Minnewashta. Spring-fed West Lake Okoboji is a beautiful shade of blue and 134' deep. It is the centerpiece of the five chain lakes. The nearby community of Fostoria is the southern gateway to Lake Okoboji.
