Prices are subject to change, please inquire about current pricing.

Cancellation Policy: A credit card number is required to hold a reservation, or, if paying by check, one night's reserved room rate, plus tax, must be sent within 7 days of making reservation. Cancellations received 30 days or more prior to arrival are entitled to a full refund. Cancellations less than 30 days to 10 days prior to arrival will result in a $25 charge to credit card, or refund of check sent, less $25. (We will try to rebook your room, if successful we will charge you nothing.) No shows will be charged for a one night stay of room reserved, plus tax, and customers paying by check will receive no refund. Prices subject to change. All rates subject to sales tax.

Anyone booking for the Clay County Fair can use a credit to hold the reservation 7 days, but must pay for all nights reserved in advance by check or money order.  We offer NO REFUNDS for cancelled dates during the annual Clay County Fair and RAGBRAI. 

Children are welcome at no extra charge. We have a high-chair and rollaway bed, but no crib.

Sorry, The Prairie Cottage interior is non-smoking: We, however, do provide a smoking area on the porch and smoking outside the building is permitted. Any guest smoking in the interior of the building will be charged $50 for smoke clean-up. 

Sorry No Accommodations for Pets: Dogs, cats, and other pets are not allowed. There is an excellent kennel just 4 miles west of Fostoria where your pets can be boarded and/or groomed.

Minted Strawberry Muffins

A popular requested recipe at the Hannah Marie Country Inn, Spencer, Iowa.
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar,
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon,
  • 2 Tbsp. minced fresh mint.
  • Toss top four ingredients. Set aside.
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • Blend with mixer 1/2 minute. set aside
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup oil

Mix together with mixer.  With a spoon, add strawberry mixture.  Add flour mixture with spoon until just blended.  A little flour will remain unmoisted. 

Spoon into oiled muffin tins.  Bake approx. 20 minutes at 400 degrees.  Serve warm with Smart Balance (a butter substitute) and preserves.
